ASG Committees

The ASG maintains its structure and continuity from year to year through a formal process of members electing a slate of officers - Chair, Vice-Chair/Program Chair and a Secretary/Treasurer. The group maintains a more flexible set of committees and task forces as needed to focus on development needs and to respond to changes in our profession.

The current list of committees and the chairperson follows. Send an e-mail and get involved in a committee on regional or national efforts:

ASG Certification Task Force, Kara Dotter and Lorraine Schnabel

Communication & Public Awareness Committee, Jennifer Cappeto
This Committee provides the public relations and strives to increase awareness of the conservation discipline and the architectural conservation specialty to the general public. The Committee maintains electronic communications, coordinates events, and fosters eductional programs.

Membership Committee, Victoria Alvarez
This Committee focuses on maintaining and increasing ASG membership through outreach opportunities, partnerships with other professional associations, and communication with colleges and universities that have programs in historic preservation and material conservation.

Nominating Committee, Tobin Tracey
This Committee is responsible for recruiting a slate of candidates for the annual officer elections and sending out and tallying the votes of ASG members. This annual mailing to members may also include other items relative to changes in the structure of the ASG or items raised for consideration at the previous annual business meeting to be brought before a membership vote.

Website Committee, Tina Reichenbach
In addition to providing general updates to the AIC-ASG website, this committee is expanding to consider how the organization relates to the Internet on a broader level. Current topics of discussion include publications, podcasts, and Wikipedia.

New Initiatives

The resiliency of the ASG has been supported through the commitment of its membership over the years to strengthen the architectural conservation specialty by building on existing AIC and ASG programs and a wide range of committee efforts. While there have been great strides made, each year we depend on newer members bringing fresh ideas and perspectives to the group and taking things in new directions.

There are a number of opportunities for interested individuals or small teams to contribute to the efforts of ASG and AIC through:

  • New events, seminars, and workshops
  • Electronic media and publishing of the work of ASG members
  • Research databases and information sharing partnerships
  • Service on one of the AIC national committees
  • Volunteering to help with the next AIC Annual Meeting

If you are interested in any of these initiatives, or have an idea for something new, contact the current ASG chair, Kevin Daly.
