Reward Your Colleagues
Every year, AIC gives out six different awards to members
and other supporting professionals for outstanding and
distinguished contributions to the field of conservation.
There is also an award for supporting institutions and
a joint award presented by AIC and Heritage Preservation
that recognizes an organization whose commitment to conservation
has been sustained and exemplary.
Please take a few minutes to let us know about the colleagues and institutions that deserve recognition for making significant contributions to our field. The nomination deadline for all awards is December 15. Let us hear from you c/o the AIC office by writing a letter or sending an e-mail message to rseyler@aic-faic.org. Details can be found below.
- Sheldon and Caroline Keck Award: Recognizes
a sustained record of excellence in the education and
training of conservation professionals

CRITERIA: Candidate should have a readily
accepted mentoring role, providing advice, consultation,
and motivation to beginners, nonacademic trainees with
high craft skills, practitioners who wish to broaden
their skills, or conservation students at all levels.
Candidate must be an AIC Fellow or Professional Associate.
Following are the specific criteria to be addressed in
the nomination form and letters of support:
1. The introduction of pre-program applicants into a
private, regional or museum conservation laboratory to
explain the basics of conservation procedures, approaches,
and ethics in any specialty, including conservation science.
2. The organization and supervision of internship and
apprenticeship training in any
specialty.
3. The instruction of students at a college or university
in pre-program prepatory
conservation program, a master's level program, or a
doctoral program.
4. The organization and teaching of courses and workshops.
- Rutherford John Gettens Merit Award: Recognizes
outstanding service to AIC

CRITERIA: Outstanding service to AIC
may include activities such as the following:
1. Service on the board, committees, task forces, and
working groups.
2. Service on the editorial board of AIC publications.
3. Service in specialty group activities (i.e. officer,
editor of publications, program chair).
4. Service in public outreach activities and education
of allied professionals.
5. Fundraising for AIC programs.
6. Promoting the importance of conservation and the work
of AIC to national, regional and
local leaders in government, business, media, public
and private foundations.
- University Products Award: Recognizes distinguished
achievement in the conservation of cultural property

- Honorary Membership: Recognizes a member for
outstanding contributions to the field of conservation.

- Forbes Medal: Awarded for distinguished contribution
to the field of conservation. Send a letter to AIC or

- Special Recognition for Allied Professionals: Recognizes
the work and contributions from professionals in other
fields to the advancement of the conservation profession.

- Joint AIC/Heritage Preservation Award for Outstanding
Commitment to the Preservation and Care of Collections: Recognizes
an organization that has been exemplary in the importance
and priority it has given to conservation concerns
and in the commitment it has shown to the preservation
and care of its cultural property.
